International visitors' programme SID 2026
We warmly invite you to join the international visitors’ programme at Shakespeare is dead, the very first playwriting festival in the Dutch language area. Following the annual rotation between Amsterdam and Leuven, the 2026 edition will take place from June 9 - 13 in Leuven.
The festival aims to put our contemporary Dutch-speaking playwrights on the centre stage, not only for their own Dutch-speaking audience but also in a wider, international context. What is more, the festival serves as a meeting place to discover work from various other linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
During the Shakespeare is dead festival there will be an international programme from Tuesday June 9th until Thursday June 11th 2026. The programme includes a grand opening with a walking dinner, debates, performances, networking lunches and many more.
The Reading Room: Discover the cream of Dutch-language playwrights
Wednesday and Thursday, we open the doors to our Reading Room. In here, contemporary Dutch-language texts come to life for an international audience through staged readings. The text excerpts are translated into English especially for this festival, where they will be performed by professional actors.
We are proud to present the recent works of the following playwrights: Ahilan Ratnamohan [BE], Annet Bremen [NL], Bart Van Nuffelen [BE], Carl von Winckelmann [BE], Eva Gouda [NL], Giovanni Brand [NL], Nina van Tongeren [NL], and Ruth Bruyneel [BE].
During the Reading Rooms, selected authors and actors will also take the stage to introduce the plays that will be performed later in the evenings.
