READING ROOM International selection

In the READING ROOM, excerpts from the 20 theatre texts of the international and Dutch-language selection will be presented in staged readings by actors.
The Dutch-language selection will be read in English. Dutch, French and German translations of the excerpts are available as far as possible.

In the award winning piece ‘Two Palestinians go dogging’, Ibrahim uses the lens of humour to explore how the everyday becomes political and the political becomes everyday in a conflict zone.

Uma Nada-Rajah is a playwright and nurse from Kilbarchan, Scotland. In her debut play EXODUS, we meet Home Secretary Asiya Rao and her advisor Phoebe in a race towards political leadership. For a publicity stunt, they organise a photo shoot on the cliffs of Dover, but rather than the tide washing her reputation clean, something else washes up …

That is the story of the Afghan couple Maryam and Hamid in Ayreek’s ‘The Empty Suitcase’.
